12 01 2008 Chelsea 2 Tottenham Hotspur 0
It's funny how much most Chelsea fans detest Spurs. I don't particularly care for them (mainly their fans) but certainly
hate teams like Arsenal more. The rivalry between the two sets of fans did provide a fantastic atmosphere, and this was
reflected with our second pleasing performance in a row. Chelsea look far more dangerous with three attacking
midfielders: Cole, SWP and Malouda. This has also forced the team to play more attractive football.
Wiley yet again had a poor game against Chelsea. For some reason, Malbranque only received a yellow for a two
footed tackle on SWP (you see Shaun? You have to roll around on the ground for five minutes like Phil
Neville/Hammann/Evra in order to get an opposing player sent off....) and made some very dubious decisions
throughout the game. Luckily his poor judgment didn't cost us any points this time.
Until Anelka came on the pitch for a decent debut, Tottenham weren't really at the races. Belletti scored his second
stunning goal of the season, and reiterated most Chelsea's fans feelings that he is one of the best right backs we have
had for a very long time.
For some reason, after Anelka's shot was brilliantly saved by their 'keeper, Spurs got back into the game but did not
create any really dangerous chances. Berbatov missed from a direct free kick and not soon after SWP brilliantly finished
from a Cole pass. Our new signing hit the post soon after and was one of the few attackers we have signed in recent
years who failed to score on his debut.
The football is getting better now. Even Malouda has returned and has looked like the player we thought he was when
he signed. It seems pretty incredible that we are only four points of the pace. If only a few decisions had gone our way
this season (ie a few red cards less!) we really could be top, and that is from a team that has not played fantastic
football for the majority of the season.
