19 12 2007 Chelsea 2 Liverpool 0
Quite astonishing. Not that Chelsea won, but that Benitez played a weakened (but nonetheless still expensive) side in
arguably the only competition the Scousers can realistically win this year while their manager chops and changes his
team all the time.
Liverpool fans are a horrible lot, and profess have such quality support when all they do all game is sing about the
opposition - and they never see the irony of singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" when more than half their fans have
already left the stadium at 2-0 down.
This was a great game in which to bounce back after the Arsenal defeat. Sheva seems to be getting slowly back into his
swing but the team still lacks confidence. It was also good to see Ricky back and Scott Sinclair playing given the recent
average performances from Cole and SWP. Ballack finally came back with a mixed performance as a substitute - but not
that a bad game considering he has been out for so long.
Liverpool had only one decent chance all game. Voronin looks like a very poor acquisition. Finally, we had a player sent
off against us after an awful tackle from Crouch - I have no idea what Ricky Gervais lookalike Benitez was arguing
about.... probably trying to cover his back yet again by blaming someone else for his own mistakes.
It was good to knock this bunch of bottlers out of one competition, and let's hope they have no success this year - they
deserve nothing - I do not respect their fans, manager or team in the slightest.
