03 11 2007 Wigan 0 Chelsea 2
One of those stadia to cross off the list. A nightmare journey followed by a competent, but dull game of football.
Wigan is a far nicer place to visit than I ever envisaged... decent pubs, friendly people, and three points. The only
downside was having to change trains on the way back four times and getting on a train from Doncaster back to London
that contained a few too many fans of opposition teams who did not like Chelsea: and I was the only Chelsea fan on the
train! Spurs were coming back from Boro, and on top of that there were fans from Pompey, Peterborough and even
Palace (the latter of whom were a good bunch of lads).
Chelsea were very solid. Wigan had great approach play, but no quality up front to convert their chances. The stadium
is your bog standard matchbox affair with no real atmosphere... as usual we had Wigan fans singing "where were you
when you were sh*t", and yet they couldn't even sell out their home end against one of the Premierships top sides! In
any case, after going 2-0 down there were a few hundred of their fans who at least sang throughout the rest of the
game.
So what to make of it all so far? No really tough games so far but a fantastic record: we are now only three points behind
Arsenal. Let's keep it up and get behind the team.
