27 10 2007 Chelsea 6 Manchester City 0
Chelsea fans can be relaxed going to games now: we are in a win-win situation. Those who disagreed with Jose's
departure will feel vindicated if Chelsea fail, but if Chelsea do well under Grant and Ten Cate then they will be happy to
see the team they love succeed. Today, we saw a performance of the style not seen since the first year under Jose: not
only did we finish brilliantly but the manner in which we won was beautiful. The game was best encapsulated by our
fourth goal: an overhead kick from Alex on the halfway line to Drogba who with one touch released it to Joe Cole and he
scored magnificently. The team showed their potential and now we have some stability and are playing well.
Chelsea were helped massively by a completely inept defensive display from Manchester City. Maybe teams are
underestimating us since Jose has left: once they realise that we still have one of the best sides in the world games will
be much tougher than this.
The man of the match by a long way was Lampard who put in one of the best displays of his career. His distribution and
setting up of three of the Chelsea goals was sublime.
The question now is how do those who criticise the management feel. We all hope Chelsea succeed, and yesterday was
the kind of display we had been missing for years. In many games in the last season we created many chances but
failed to put them away: this time even Kalou and Shevchenko scored! In any case, the next few games do not look
difficult on paper and until Arsenal away at Christmas, we need to continue plugging away to breach the gap between us
and the top teams. Let's not go too over the top with the win, but it is a massive step in the right direction.
On a final note: City fans... don't sing,
"where were you when you were sh*t",
when you only take half your allocation
for a 3pm Saturday kick off after the best
start to a season in 30 odd years!
