02 09 2007        Aston Villa 2 Chelsea 0
Not as bad a performance as the media or some lunatic Chelsea fans may suggest, but nevertheless a massive
disappointment.

Villa Park is not a happy hunting ground for us. I struggle to recall many visits here that have resulted in a Chelsea
victory. The Blues began brightly but were completely blown away in the second half after conceding a sloppy goal from
a corner. Playing a more attacking formation, Chelsea were lost at the back. I am not surprised Roman left early - as I
did too.

So are we useless without Lampard? I thought we had the strength in depth in the squad now where one player missing
would not make a huge difference. It perhaps shows what a vital player Lampard is - our top scorer and a vital cog in the
team.

We must bounce back against Blackburn. At the moment we look well behind Arsenal and Liverpool and I fear after early
promise we may face a disappointing season. It may be that the team needs to gel, but on the way back from Villa Park I
had that awful feeling in my bones that I did every time I returned from an away game under Ranieri's stewardship.
