15 08 2007        Reading 1 Chelsea 2
If there was a stereotypical game of two halves, then this was it.

Yet again, Sky decided to show the game at 8pm (what's wrong with 7.45?). As per last season, many Chelsea fans
arrived at Reading station and sipped beers at the Three Guineas where two Liverpool fans entered wearing the hated
red strip. Cue a chorus of "Murdereeers! Murdereeers!" How someone can wear their shirt in a pub not knowing that
Chelsea fans would be less than impressed with their presence shows not only the naivety but also cockiness of
Liverpool fans. And where did these staunch Liverpool fans want to watch their beloved team play in Europe? In a bar in
Reading! Pretty much sums up the fan base of Liverpool - a bunch of glory hunters who would have sided with Hitler if it
even remotely looked as if he had a Chance of winning WWII. They abruptly left - good riddance!

Among the many problems I have with Reading is a stadium which is built so that it is easily accessible from the
motorway. Now that is fine if you have 10,000 fans (as Reading did regularly attract when they were shit), but when you
have nearly 25,000 this causes chaos around the ground. Not only that, but Reading decided to ban the sale of alcohol
in the ground to Chelsea fans meaning that many left it til the last minute (well - 45 minutes before the game) to make
their way from Reading station to the ground. With pelting rain many fans only made it in a few minutes after kick-off. It
could have been a lot worse too!

Chelsea were average in the first half playing against a stubborn and well-drilled Reading side. The home side created
more chances than we would have liked to see and really should have gone in 2-0 up after Oster had hit the post after
some woeful defending. As per usual Reading fans were at their most vociferous when ahead. Another bunch of division
one style fans who like to give it the bigun but seem strangely quiet when things aren't going their way.

Jose is arguably the best manager in Britain at making substitutions. It was obvious that tactics were not working in the
first half and bringing on Mikel and Pizarro completely changed the game. From depression at half time, Chelsea scored
two magnificent goals. Maybe the Reading fans sang, "Sidwell, what's the score?" a little bit prematurely, eh?

In any case, two wins out of two. Liverpool on Sunday is a game that I shall not be attending. Because of all the plastic
Liverpool fans driving up from the South, leaving the city will be a nightmare and with a very early morning start at work
on Monday I cannot afford to arrive home only at midnight on a Sunday. Hence my boycott of Sky - I hope others join in!
My only problem with this is going to watch it in a pub in Clapham Junction which is bound to be full of plastic Man U and
Liverpool fans. Oh well, the last time I saw a game at Anfield in a pub we won 4-1! Maybe it's best I stay away from
attending matches in Liverpool permanently....
