19 03 2007 Spuds 1 Chelsea 2
I had a bad feeling before this match. Not only because it was impossible to call which side would win, but also due to
certain off the field events involving a feather duster and some celery at Parsons Green in the 3-3 draw at home.
In the end, both fears were unfounded. There was no sign of any trouble despite contrary talk earlier in the day.
Spurs started off in a similar vein to how they began at Stamford Bridge, and for the first five minutes the signs were
ominous for the blues. Tottenham fans were unusually quiet throughout the game - it was as if they had a feeling they
would be going out of the cup. As the first half progressed Chelsea looked more dangerous. With Terry at the back
Spurs were limited to few chances in the end. Spurs looked frustrated and you saw some of the worse aspects of their
play: Keane moaning to try and earn free-kicks for non-existent fouls and Chimbonda a very lucky man to remain on the
pitch after several skirmishes.
The match was still too close to call even when the second half began. That is why Chelsea went so mental when Sheva
scored one of the goals of the season. What a goal! He really is showing some form finally. Even SWP was having a half
decent game and scored a peach of a goal to send Chelsea fans delirious.
It would not be typical Chelsea though if they did not leave their fans biting their nails towards the end. Sloppy play in
midfield allowed them to break free: Carvalho was lucky not to be sent off for giving away that penalty.
In the end I had to rush out with a minute to go - these 5.30am wake ups are not helpful (again - thanks BBC for the
8.05pm kick off!) Thanks to the glory of the internet I managed to see the shocking scene of a typical Spurs fan running
onto the pitch and trying to lamp Lampard - and missing! The irony is that Lamps had a bleedin' awful game! On the
serious side, you have to wonder what these stewards are doing. Who would be liable if Frank had suffered a serious
injury?
Anyway, victory over our bitter rivals was very sweet. Our support was magnificent. Onto the semis now. For some
strange reason Chelsea will be playing at Old Trafford for the semi. Why did they not choose the Emirates? Why was
kick off at 4pm? Yet more disgusting treatment of Chelsea fans and for those who do travel to many aways there must
be groans that we have to visit the North West yet again. Blackburn have a stadium to visit that is on their doorstep and
we have a 400 mile round trip.
We will be favourites to play Man Utd in the final of course and if this does come to fruition I pray that one of my demons
is exorcised: to beat those bastards 4-0 in the FA Cup Final after the debacle in 1994!
