13 01 2007 Chelsea 4 Wigan 0
We've got our Chelsea back! (Well, some of it anyway) What a difference Arjen Robben made today. Chelsea played
their best football for a month and finally the main players we have been missing seem to be slowly coming back into the
team. Cech should be back in a week as should John Terry.
Wigan played with one up front for most of the game. I felt very sorry for Emile Heskey who ran his socks off during the
game. And without trying to sound like Trinny and Susannah, he seems to have lost some weight. Maybe the black shirt
was slimming? Or maybe I have been watching to many makeover programmes with the missus....
It was quite obvious what Wigan's tactic was: pump the ball from defence through to the middle and pray a defensive
slip-up would let Heskey in through goal. This failed, and by the time Heskey was substituted Chelsea were already 3-0
up.
The lead up to the game was not the best with talk of Jose leaving and Steve Clarke having been sacked just before the
match began. The crowd was quite vociferous in their support from Jose - they know that most recent results were
mainly down to individual players' performances rather him.
Ballack had a decent, solid game for once. Unfortunately, again Kalou looked out of his depth.
It felt like 1989 again as I looked towards the Wigan end and saw they embarrassingly only managed to bring a couple
of hundred fans with them. Of course, £48 is a lot to pay but it also shows the fickleness of the fans who like to sing,
"where were you when you were shit", and yet not go to watch their own team play at the heights of their success!
Certainly not as embarrassing as not being able to sell out home games when ticket prices are £15.
So a great result and a fantastic performance. The small grey cloud above Stamford Bridge has been partially lifted.
Next weekend is crucial for Chelsea. We desperately need to beat Liverpool and pray that Arsenal beat Manchester
United. I, for one, would much prefer to be playing Liverpool at Anfield than Arsenal at Highbury at the moment.
Time to find a TV in South West Poland to watch the game now!
