14 12 2006 Chelsea 1 Newcastle 0
Last night's match was tedious to the extreme in comparison with Sunday's draw against Arsenal.
Newcastle set out to earn a point. With Martens more or less on his own up front Chelsea had little defending to do,
even though the Geordies somehow hit the bar in the first half.
Kalou was put on his own up front, and had his chance to shine. So did SWP... and they both failed. Both were subbed
at half time and it was a relief to see Sheva on the pitch - all is taken back! It was even stranger that Drogs had started
on the bench... there is this old football cliche that if you are too unfit to start you should not even be a sub! In any case,
thank God he came on because it made an immediate impact.
The atmosphere was shockingly bad. Having been to the So Bar before the game where the atmosphere was fantastic,
and then going into the stadium you wondered why anyone bothered turning up! It was only the MHL as usual who
bothered to sing, and to be fair, some people in the West Upper tried to start some chants... but most Chelsea fans in
that section don't really fancy singing along as per usual.
This will be my last Chelsea match til Macclesfield at home. If Everton had been on the Saturday, I would have gone. If
they hadn't changed the Villa away game for Sky, I would have gone to that one too. Anyway, time to find some bars
showing Sky games in Wroclaw, Poland then!
Merry Xmas
