25 03 2006        Chelsea 2 Manchester City 0
Overall an enjoyable performance albeit overshadowed by idiots from the crowd booing the team and later Drogba.

Chelsea was the superior team overall. In the first half Drogba scored a fantastic goal and then a second, more
controversial one. The ball hit his hand from a cross and he knocked it in. Cue vociferous protests from the City players.
I saw it as a handball, and even at half time Chelsea fans laughed about it. Talk about a strange week of handballs!

City were limited to one shot on target by Danny Mills. Distin was sent off at half time for continuous protesting and the
floodgates should have opened.

In the second half Chelsea created fewer chances and sat back more. Duff went off injured and we reverted to 4-4-2.
There was some great banter with the City fans and David James which made the game more memorable. Even Danny
Mills earned some brownie points by asking the referee not to book Joe Cole after a bad tackle by the otherwise
excellent Chelsea player.

The Chelsea crowd grew restless, and there was even some booing at Chelsea's unadventurous play. I am no fan of
sitting back on a lead, but I would be far more scathing if City had managed to snatch a draw if we had overcommitted
players up front. Remember Leicester at home 1999 anyone? 2-0 up then 2-2 which cost us the league.

Towards the end Drogba brilliantly worked the ball but then collapsed having been mildly touched on the cheek by a
Man City player. Cue even more boos, albeit a tiny minority of idiots who have probably only been coming to watch since
the turn of this century. As I have said before, he is not going to do himself any favours by being a big girl's blouse all
the time. Fair play - other teams do it too - and as we are top of the league our games will be scrutinised more. Two
wrongs don't make a right though.

Chelsea looking good again then, but the game was overshadowed by controversy as per usual. It is a shame the team
didn't capitalise on the one man advantage. Then Drogba's handball would have been irrelevant.

So, Birmingham next week - a bunch of fans who I have never had problems with and normally sing their hearts out
throughout the game. I am looking forward to their rendition of "there's some right Walsall fanny over there!" No - it's
Warsaw... Warsaw.
