02 03 2006 Real Zaragoza's paltry fine
So UEFA show how weak they are. Real Zaragoza receive a paltry 9,000 Euros fine for racist abuse from the fans
towards Eto'o.
Last year Mourinho was fined £5,000 for making comments after the League Cup semi win over Manchester United in
the League Cup. Mourinho and Chelsea were also fined 75,000 Swiss Francs for his comments about Anders Frisk.
Which in fact turned out to be correct! So where is the balance?
Fines for European clubs in recent years has been pathetic. Inter Milan were fined just 200,000 Euros last season
where their fans' behaviour actually halted the play in their Champions' league match against AC Milan. At least they
had to play four home matches behind closed doors which cost them revenue.
English fans now have to be whiter than white (excuse the pun) because of our misdemeanours in the past.
It was amusing to see that during EURO 2004 England fans' behaved very well. But the media was foaming at the bit to
see some aggro, and so the only incident that was portrayed was a fight in a bar on the Portuguese coast, hundreds of
miles away from where England fans were based. Even our own newspapers seem to want us receive bad press!
With regard to the above incidents, I hope all fans remember the action UEFA has taken. If a serious incident occurs at
a match in England I hope UEFA deal with it as leniently as they have for mainland European clubs.
