25 02 2006 Chelsea Portsmouth at home
Another day, another three points in the Premier League.
With support subdued following the epic match that took place on Wednesday, Chelsea showed the class that has made them a
cut above the rest in the top division. The sun was out, but it was an extremely cold day.
Despite Portsmouth bringing in several new players during the transfer window, Chelsea rarely looked troubled. Robben was
supreme, as was Eidur when we came on.
Unsurprisingly, the hypocritical away fans gave the usual "Where were you when you were shit?" banter as they had nothing
else to sing about. Perhaps they should care to note what their attendances were before they hit the big time. I see they
struggled to average 13,000 a game until the 21st century. I can speak from first hand experience. Having lived in Le Havre for
a year and having had to take the ferry to and from Portsmouth there for a year, the average Portsmouth inhabitant I spoke to
didn't go to Fratton Park because they said their team was too poor to watch. So that's where you were when you were shit then
you inbreds! How come you only took 1,800 to the match today? Small club know nothing supporters with a big mouth and one
cow bell.
Chelsea was far superior and at one stage sported four attacking midfielders: Cole, Robben, SWP and Duff! Del Horno got
taken off. I hear from a good source that he was given a massive bollocking after the Barca game on Wednesday from Jose
Mourinho. It shows the polarisation between what Mourinho says to the press compared to what he says to his own players! I
also hear that Gallas is insisting on touring with the French international party despite being injured. He has allegedly
threatened that if Chelsea do not let him travel, he will make sure he will not be fit for the Barca away game! Uppity French
players? Whatever next! Drogba was disappointing as per usual. Two excellent goals scored which Eidur had a massive hand
in. It was a delight to see Robben score. He has been exceptional recently.
For me the moment of the match was Frank Lampard taking a corner kick in the first half in the only tiny segment of the pitch
where you could have the glare of the sunlight against you. Not only is The Sun anti-Chelsea, but Mother Nature's sun is too!
After the game I attended the Chelsea Supporters Group meeting which was fairly constructive. Unfortunately, we as supporters
have so many grievances to share that one hour was no way near enough to express all our views adequately enough! It was a
positive meeting in any case.
So off to West Brom next week and looking forward to it. They have a good bunch of fans. Bit of a pain in the arse to drive to
though! Up the Chels!
